Three Sports That May Require Sports Massages

Whether you’re training at a professional level or you enjoy sports as a recreational activity, it’s important to take care of your body. Sports are great for maintaining your fitness, however, you also have to maintain some downtime and recognise signs that your body could benefit from treatment such as a sports massage.

Here are three types of sports that may require regular sports massage sessions.

Weight training

Weight lifting is one of the best forms of exercise for the entire body. However, as you progress in your training you are actually causing micro tears to your muscles - this process of repairing and adapting is called hypertrophy. Although this is essential for muscle growth you must progress at a steady pace and focus on good form to avoid injury. There are many things that you can do to remain safe while weight training such as having a good post-work-out stretching routine, seeking advice of a good personal trainer, having rest days and seeking professional sport massage sessions to reduce muscle tightness.

Athletics

Athletic training can include a wide range of movements including running, jumping, throwing and more. These movements can put a repetitive strain on your body, which if not cared for properly, can lead to further problems. Sports massages are ideal for those undergoing intense training or want to relieve muscular tension. Not only will they reduce likelihood of injury, but  through allowing better muscle function they can contribute to an improved athletic performance.

Swimming

Swimming requires a lot of strength and flexibility. After a hard training session you should recover properly and sports massages can be an important part of a swimmers training regime. Competitive swimmers, for example, often perform particular strokes more frequently than others and this can result in particular muscle groups becoming more vulnerable to tension. Massages can help with a range of swimming ailments such as swelling, stiff muscles, bad posture and more.

Sports massages are not limited to these three sports. In fact, they’re a great way of helping all kinds of sports people from reducing injury risk and staying at the top of their game!
