Prevent Back Pain While Working on the Computer

If you are one of the millions of people who spend their day sitting at a desk, you likely have some back issues. We frequently see people who suffer from back pain due to sitting at the computer for work, but there are a few ways to help reduce this pain.

Watch Your Posture

When sitting at the computer, you should have your ears, shoulders, and hips positioned so a straight line can be drawn straight down your body. Above all, avoid slouching in your chair, as this can increase the pressure on your neck and back and may eventually cause pain.

Adjust Your Computer Screen

Are you working at the proper height? Many people work on laptops, which means their head is tilted down to look at the screen. This can create additional pressure on the spine and when you’re in this position for hours on end, you’ll end up with a stiff neck and sore back.

If possible, you should have the keyboard positioned so your forearms are horizontal and parallel to the floor. The screen should be high enough that you can keep your head in a neutral position to look straight ahead at it. You may need to change some things around to ensure you have the best possible position for everything.

Invest in a Good Chair

A bad chair can place strain on your spine.. While sitting is not a great way to spend your entire day, you should ensure that you have the right support while you work. It requires an investment, but an ergonomic office chair is a must have to prevent back and neck pain. It will provide you with the right support to encourage good posture.

Move Around

As much as possible, you should try to get up and walk around. Take a moment to stretch when you go to the lavatory, walk to the water cooler regularly, or just stand up and do a few twists to help loosen your muscles. Try to avoid sitting for more than 30-40 minutes at a time. Getting up and moving a bit will improve your circulation and help with preventing pain.
